Royal Victoria Park

The park was opened by the 11-year old Princess Victoria in 1830. The 57 acres includes a botanical garden, children’s play area, tennis courts, bowling and putting green and a duck pond. Many events take place in the park. In fine weather during the summers, hot air balloons take off in the early morning or evenings. On Sundays there are often concerts in the restored Victorian bandstand. It has also hosted major sporting events like the Tour of Britain Cycling race in 2014.
